The chart refers to the expense on consumer goods spent in Germany, Italy, France and Spain in British currency.

People in Germany spend about a hundred and seventy thousand pounds sterling on purchasing photographic film, which makes it the biggest amount of spent of all. Compared to this, French people spend very little on buying tennis racquets. They only spend about a hundred and forty-five thousand pounds, and this was the smallest amount spent in the chart.

Both Italian and French spend approximately £158,000 on toys. German and French spend almost the same on personal stereos; there is only a slight difference. Besides, Britain spends the same amount on personal stereos and tennis racquets. Germany and Italy don’t have large differences on buying personal stereos, tennis racquets, and perfumes. Italy spends a bit more than Germany do. However, Italy spends much more on buying toys and photographic films.

The expense on buying personal stereos, tennis racquets, perfumes, CDs, toys, and photographic films in the four countries is shown on the chart. Overall, Britain spends more than any other three countries in general.

Topic: The following appeared in a memo from the owner of Green Gardening Center, a small business serving a suburban town. “There is evidence that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables. A national survey conducted last month indicated that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. And locally, the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row. Thus, we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase our profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring.”

The conclusion of the memo from Green Gardening Center is roughly this: Green Gardening Center intends to greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds for profits. I find this memo questionable on several points.

First of all, it is mentioned in the memo that according to a national survey, many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. Since Green Gardening Center is a small business serving a suburban town, I seriously doubt that if this survey can be applied to this case. Perhaps this suburban town is an exception.

Second, people don’t just buy vegetables in supermarkets. There are a great number of people who purchase their food ingredients in some traditional markets. People are dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables in supermarkets does not mean they will feel the same toward those in traditional markets.

Another problem with this memo is the sale of the magazines. The memo contends that the gardening magazine Green Gardens has sold out in a certain news stand three months in a row. It may be significant if the owner of the news stand stocked 30 Green Gardens magazines and sold 30. It may be insignificant if the owner only stocked three of this magazine and sold three. Besides, a specific news stand does not represent the nation-wide tendency.

Topic:It is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician.

As a college student concerned about political issues, I agree with the point that it is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician.

Even though President Harry Truman once said, “Secrecy and a free, democratic government don’t mix,” I don’t think the public has to know every detail of everything. I can still remember what happened in my country, Taiwan, in 1996. 1996 was the year we had our first democratic presidential election. As all people know, China does not admit that Taiwan is an independent political and economical individual. Months before the election took place, China kept threatening Taiwan. They claimed that they set up some missiles that aimed Taiwan, and they could be fired anytime. The government decided to hold a press conference and tell the public about the missiles. It turned out that we had a huge emigration tide. Everyone wanted to escape from Taiwan and went to some strong or politically stable countries, such as the USA and New Zealand. We finished the presidential election with peace. China never came, and those people started to regret spending a large amount of money moving to a place they’re not familiar with.

In fact, the government officials should have thought through the whole incident carefully and estimated the results that might have been brought by it before they actually release the news. In the case I just mentioned, Taiwanese government raised an unnecessary panic, wasting people’s time and money, driving them away from their root, their home.

To be an effective political leader cannot be always honest; however, he should be honest most of the time, when people need to know the truth. Several years ago, the whole Asia suffered from the sever disease, SARS. The main reason why SARS spread so fast and so fiercely was because Chinese government was trying to hide the fact that people with SARS virus were contagious and SARS can cause people to death. As a result, more people got infected, and some of them passed away just because the dishonesty of Chinese government. Almost the same thing happened in Taiwan as well. He-ping hospital was the very first hospital that was sealed by the Health Department of the government. It was sealed because there were too many SARS patients. When the doctors found the first patient, they didn’t report to the Health Department and sought for help. More people got infected. They just had to be isolated to prevent from getting the virus to others.

今天去上了張凱宏老師的GRE分析寫作課
真是...龍心大悅個到倂過(請用台語發音謝謝)!

話說GRE的AWA(分析寫作)分成兩部份
一個是Issue,另一個是Argument
所謂Issue就是要對一個陳述提出自己的看法
可以贊成,也可以反對
更棒的是可以從不同的角度,不同的領域來發展
字數需要400-600字
至於Argument,題目則是一段敘述

If you think that ladies' room is just for relieving you call of nature, my friend, you're absolutely wrong with it. The ladies' room functions not only as a restroom but also an extremely important social place.

Since I was a little girl, I learned how to make new friends at the ladies' room at school. I met some really nice people. Some of them are still in contact with me nowadays. In fact, the function of ladies' room is not only about making new friends, it also contains sharing beauty strategies. "What are the most effective ways of losing weight?" is the most popular issue. There are still other issues such as "What should I wear to be more trendy?" or "How do I make the guy I have a crush on notice me?" Girls talk about things; therefore, gossips show up. Gossiping is the most important and the most common thing that happens in the ladies' room. Gossiping is one of the women natures. Girls gossip in the ladies' room when they think there are no one else there almost everyday. Thus, I "overhear" lots of gossips almost everyday.

The ladies' room plays a very important role in every girl's life. If there's any feature of girls' daily lives, I dare to say that "The Culture of Ladies' Room" will be number one.

好笑的journal終於現身囉!

I had interviews with some women. I asked them, "What would you say if you found out that your boyfriend is gay?"

Some of them refused to think or to answer. Most of them answered with embarrassment, but they got more and more excited. Once it got started, it couldn't stop.

"What?"

Nokia, one of the biggest cell phone producers on earth, has successfully spread its cell phones everywhere. When I was a high school student, I got the chance to visit Nokia in Finland under the help of Mayor Ma, and knew what Nokia is really about.

As most of us know, Nokia is famous for its easy-funtioned cell phones, but very few people know that back to 1865, Nokia's products had no relations to cell phones, or even telephones. The owner of Nokia in 1865 was a carpenter, and the products were made of wood. Besides, the company of Nokia used to produce tires and boots. The more amazing thing was, it once was the biggest toilet tissue producer in Finland! Nokia had been doing lots of work, but after the 90s, they sold all other branches out, and concentrated on producing cell phones.

The cell phones of Nokia are sold in many places, and it became the largest cell phone brand these years. In the year of 2000, Nokia sold about one 128,000,000 cell phones, 4 cell phones were sold in one single second! What are the reasons for this amazing number? The most important one is, Nokia is the easiest-funtioned cell phone for the customers. Even the dummies can use it smoothly within 24 hours. The other important reason is its appearance. Nokia always lead the trend. They not only have the engineers to work on the function but also the designers to design the looking. They combine these two to become a fabulous cell phone.

There are 5 categories of Nokia cell phones, which are Basic, Classic, Fashion, Premium, and Communicator. Basic is the basic kind of cell phone; it has the basic funtions that everyone can use every day. Classic is for businessmen; they can surf the net by using their cell phones. Fashion is for the people that want to show off themselves; this kind of cell phone usually has colorfull shell. Premium is for rich people; the funtions are complete and the appearance is usually elegant, usually made of metal. The last one is Communicator, which is for rich and professional people; it's just like a small palm pilot(PDA), beautiful and useful, more high-tech.

So why is Nokia so successful? The answer is simple-- connecting people. They do surveys every year. They do know what the customers really want and really need. And with this central idea, Nokia has become an outstanding cooperation.

Since I had my first French friend, I wanted to ask her some questions about French kissing, but I was too shy to ask. Now that I have a French friend here in Taiwan, I must grab the chance.

First, I asked Stephane whether all French people do French kiss. He gave me an interesting answer, "Oh, you don't?" And then I asked if he feels awkward if he doesn't know where he should put his tongue while kissing. He gave me a more interesting answer, "In her mouth, of course! How should that be awkward?" When I heard this, I felt like fainting. At last, I asked him how he learned the technique of French kissing, and this question seemed tough to him. He was quiet, thinking for a while, and finally broke the silence, "Well, I don't know. I think it's part of our nature!"

Finally, I got someone to answer the question that had been lingering in my mind for years. However, I still have no idea how French kissing Works. =p

Confessions. Book V [The Years 1732-1736]
Jean-Jacques Rousseau

It is sometimes said that the sword wears out the scabbard. That is my history. My passions have made me live, and my passions have killed me. What passions? will be asked. Trifles, the most childish things in the world, which, however, excited me as much as if the possession of Helen or the throne of the universe had been at stake.

今天的歐史,老師上到盧梭的Confessions
這篇是盧梭學Saint Augustin的Confessions寫成的一篇
在Book V的地方,這一句開頭,簡直就是在寫我!
Passion,是浪漫主義時代一個很重要的元素
也是我人生的圭臬

誤解1. 外國人比較有禮貌
外國人比較有禮貌個屁!

Then Almitra spoke again and said, And what of Marriage, master?
And he answered saying:
You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
